Ordering a replacement key from the manufacturer may mean that it will not arrive for weeks. Why is it so expensive to go to the dealership?

Modern bikes tend to use a system called an Engine Control Unit (ECU) that is activated by an RFID key. The unit stops working if you lose the key. Go to your dealership, and they will insist on replacing the whole system. In some cases, it would practically be cheaper to buy a new bike than to replace the ECU. And you may also have to wait while the expensive parts are delivered from the country of manufacture.
