Local Vehicle Crime Statistics

Norfolk is a large rural county. On average, in each postal district of the county, there are 112 offences per 10,000 registered cars. There are three kinds of vehicle crime recorded in the statistics: criminal damage, theft from a vehicle and theft of a vehicle. 36% of vehicle crime in Norfolk concerns theft from a vehicle. Work vans that contain valuable tools are a favourite target of thieves.

Highs and Lows of Norfolk Vehicle Crime

As you’d perhaps expect, Norfolk’s population hotspots usually correlate with its criminal activity hotspots. Except when it comes to vehicle crime. This is because vehicles parked at our county’s attractive tourist spots and vans working in remote locations are considered vulnerable by thieves. Sandringham is the area of the county where you are most likely to experience vehicle crime – Norfolk Police recorded 147 incidents there last year. Compare that with sleepy Attleborough – only 10 incidents in a whole year!

Prevention of Vehicle Crime

The best way to prevent your vehicle or its contents from being stolen is to have a working locking mechanism and to use it. When parking in remote spots, make sure that you lock your car and don’t leave any valuables on display. If you have a works van with valuable tools stored in the back – make sure that it is fitted with a Thatcham-approved deadlock. We can fit these starting at just £177 per door
