Need Help Finding Your Keys? Accessories for the Absent-Minded

09/11/2017 Lost keys on a track

If you are locked out and need to regain access to your home or car, we are only a phone call away. However, there are some cool keyring accessories out there that could help prevent you from losing your keys in the first place. Here are some of our favourites.

  1. Whistle Locator: One of the earliest technological key locating gadgets and one that doesn’t require a smartphone app to operate. Simply whistle and your keyring will beep and flash until you locate your keys. The only slight drawback would be if you are unable to whistle.
  2. Cork Float: Essential for those who live, work or play near water. A cork float will prevent up to three keys from sinking to the murky depths. It’s pretty bulky though, so you won’t be able to fit it in the pocket of your skinny jeans.
  3. Separation Alarm: These devices are intended to make sure that you don’t walk off without your keys. The alarm is split in two – one half with your keys and the other attached to your jacket or handbag or something that you are less likely to forget. The alarm sounds if its two halves are ever more than 50 metres apart.
  4. Bluetooth tracker: You can use your phone to call this little keyring which will sound an alarm. Can’t find your phone? The device works the other way, too! This brand also has an anonymous community feature that uses other people’s devices to find your lost item.
  5. Bayesian Search Theory: This smartphone app helps non-mathematicians use Bayesian Search Theory to optimise how they look for things. This statistical method was used successfully to find Air France 447 when it crashed in the Atlantic Ocean – so your car keys should not pose too big a problem.

Remember not to panic! If you really cannot find your keys anywhere, you will probably want to replace the locks for security reasons. At PT Lock and Safe, we can replace lost keys and make sure your home and vehicle are secure.
