Watch Out for Locksmith Rip-Off Merchants

The majority of people working in the locksmith trade are honest, hardworking, and looking to earn a living whilst helping people out. We have good relations with our industry colleagues, and there are multiple locksmiths firms in Norfolk that we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to a customer if we were snowed under and unable to help immediately.
It was through this network that we came across the shocking invoice pictured above. Someone shared it to the Norfolk Locksmiths Facebook group. Suffice it to say, we could be retiring very soon if we priced our services so extortionately. The eye-watering invoice came from a firm in London, but location is no excuse as we know locksmiths in London whose prices are not much more than our own.
We would have charged £75.00 (plus VAT) for the same job. These rip-off merchants charged £380.40!
How to Avoid Getting Ripped Off
There are a few simple steps that you can take to avoid being charged too much for services:
- Look for an established local firm
- Read customer testimonials on Google and Facebook
- Check affiliations and accreditations
- Ring round to get quotes from a few different companies
You don’t necessarily have to go with the cheapest out there. You might well be prepared to pay a little extra for e.g. a faster service. But comparing a few different quotes is the fastest way to weed out any service provider who is going to overcharge.
